I'm a psychotherapist with a private practice in beautiful Bend, Oregon. I see clients for mood disorders, relationship problems, addictions, grief and loss. I gravitate towards psychodynamic and Self psychology, and also find experiential methods very effective and rewarding for most clients. I'm always amazed at clients' resilience and resourcefulness and imagination. Although imagination can be both a blessing and a curse--maybe that topic will become an article. I'm an active member of Clinicians Network, a Central Oregon group of therapists and counselors.
In my misspent youth I was a horse trainer, having spent years in Virginia and attending a year-long school for professional horse trainers, taught by a former Olympic team coach. I worked with 3-Day Event horses but also competed at hunter/jumper and dressage shows up and down the east coast. I don't have horses right now and am learning to appreciate hiking instead of riding.
I started out in college studying psychology, but ended up with a degree in Classical Greek. I was an avid student of Wado Ryu karate, and dabbled in aikido as well. Lately I've practiced kung fu, but it's hard to empty the mind and I'm afraid I still prefer karate.
I'm looking forward to writing articles on mental health and behavioral issues, and might write about horse training if I feel inspired. I welcome comments to my articles and visitors to my blog.
